Android To Watch Blu Ray Video on Devices from 20th Century Fox

Watch me on Android Charles!

Android users can finally rejoice when it comes to being able to watch a Blu Ray movie that you already own, well at least starting soon. 20th Century Fox has recently announcedthat they will be allowing Andorid users to download a digital copy of X-Men: First Class when they purchase the Blu Ray copy of the movie. This is a first for movie studios and a good test to see if this is what users really want to do with the video that they purchase. For me this is a fair deal because since you already own the rights to view the movie you should have the options on what to view it on, whether that is a HDTV set or an Andorid cell phone or tablet. It appears that this will only be available in the US, UK, France, and Germany initially.

Back in 2009 Fox started to sell Blu Ray combo packs which included a Blu Ray copy, a DVD copy, and a digital download all for the same movie. By offering consumers a choice in which to view a movie they are covering all the bases. But with the costs involved with the process has forced the industry to think in other terms. For example with the explosion of tablet devices like the iPad and new devices from HP and others many are looking for ways to view their HD content on their big screen HDTV sets and to bring it along with them on trips on these devies. By offering the digital downloads for Andorid devices, this is a step in the right direction for keeping costs down and consumer experiences up.

As 2011 comes to a close, look for more movies being offered in this format from Fox and look for more movie studios adopting this type of service.
